Cambodia will celebrate the 11th National Reading Day with a five-day book fair at the Institute of Technology from March 11 to 15.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport said this year’s event carries the theme “Writing and Reading in a New Context,” aiming to cultivate reading habits, strengthen skills in reading, poetry, and composition, and contribute to preserving Khmer culture and civilisation. The initiative targets students, civil servants, and the general public, while also promoting the values of Cambodia’s human heritage.

National Reading Day is celebrated annually on the birthday of Khmer literary scholar, Venerable Chuon Nath, in honour of his contributions in preserving the Khmer language and compiling the Khmer dictionary, which continues to be widely used today.
